DESCRIPTION:If you’ve ever wondered how to realistically and sustainably 
 keep bees year round in Alaska\, join Tim Huffman and Anchor Gardens for a
  two-part workshop at Seed Lab. Tim is passionate about wanting to break A
 laska’s dependence on imported California bees and has organized an intr
 oduction to sustainable beekeeping in Alaska into a two-part workshop seri
 es. In the first workshop he will cover realistic expectations\, the gear 
 you will need and methods to use for cold climate\, and honey bee biology 
 and colony behavior. In the second workshop he will cover honey bee health
  and how to manage pests and viruses and also connecting into and developi
 ng community support.\n\nThis workshop is free\, made possible by a grant
  from Anchorage Soil and Water Conservation District and Anchor Gardens\,
  and open to everyone over 10yrs of age. Two\, two-part workshops will be
  offered on Jan. 7th and 14. Choose from Session One ( 12-2pm) or Session
  Two (2:30-4:30pm). Registration is for both sessions in the chosen time s

 keeping@gmail.com.\nAbout Tim Huffman\nTim moved to Alaska from Oregon in 
 1984. His many jobs include State employment\, commercial fishing\, remote
  sport fish guiding\, high school and college volleyball officiating\, gol
 f course employee\, and rearing angelfish for local aquarium supply stores
 .\n\nIn 2018\, Tim began keeping bees in backyards across Anchorage\, and 
 has been the beekeeper for 49th State Brewing since 2020. He successfully 
 overwinters 80% of his colonies\, and uses them to create additional colon
 ies with locally mated queens. Tim began the season with ten overwintered 
 colonies\; he’s going into winter with 18. 100% of his 2023 honey harves
 t came from colonies that survived winter.\n\n Overwintering bee hives in
