Workshop: How to save your garden from weeds

When

07/26/25
11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Event Type

Have a garden overtaken by weeds and wondering if it can be saved? Sure it can!Gardener stands in tall weeds that have completely over taken the garden.Gardeners Kristi Wood and Lauri King will show you how to rebuild a weedy garden without tilling or digging. Tilling and digging breaks up the micro-rhizome layers that microbiology uses to keep our soil healthy and resilient. It also brings weed seeds up to the surface where they are almost guaranteed to sprout! Plus it’s extra work and we are lazy!

Location: Chanshtnu Muldoon Community Garden (8100 Debarr Rd)
Time: 11am to 1pm

We’ll bring cardboard, leaves, and some composted horse manure.

Participants are encouraged to bring: Lasagna gardening amendments such as freshly cut grass (without dog poop or lawn chemicals), composted horse manure (11120 Birch Dr is a great source, just bring buckets and shovels), compost, food scraps, spent grain (available from Midnight Sun Brewery or Glacier Brewery in the valley), used mushroom substrate (Far North Fungi at 21625 Old Glenn Hwy, Chugiak is a good source), coffee grounds, etc.

Dress to get dirty too!
