Stockpiles are Open for 2023 Season!

This year we have 6 locations around Anchorage and Eagle River. Every Thursday, Theresa Brown will update the stockpile schedule and resources available at each location.

Stockpile Locations & Schedule (times good for May 20-26th)

EAGLE RIVER 

11840 Copper Mountain Rd. Stockpile host: Emily Beaulieu.
Open Sat 8:00-10:30am and 5-8pm, Sun 12-4pm, Mon 5-8pm, Wed 5-8pm, Thurs 5-8pm. Resources include composted horse manure, free seeds. Next week mushroom substrate and rabbit poo will be available.

NORTHEAST

1709 Kepner Dr. Stockpile hosts: Kristi and Dohnn Wood
Open 9am-8pm every day until it is gone! Resources include composted manure and free seeds. 

MIDTOWN

1801 Stratford Court Stockpile hosts: Erica and Nick Lujan
Open Tues-Friday 9-11am, 11-2pm on Sat and Sun. Resources include composted manure and free seeds.

SOUTHWEST 

7927 Cranberry St. Stockpile host: Danna Larson
Open Saturday 11-1pm (more times will be available). Resources include composted horse manure and free seeds.

SOUTHEAST

8121 Wellsley Ct. Stockpile host: Nathalie Miller
Open Saturday 4-8pm, Mon 3:00-6:3- and Wed. 3:00-6:30. Resources include composted horse manure, mushroom substrate, and free seeds.

DOWNTOWN 

I ST Community Garden (14th and I ST next to City Market New Sagaya). Stockpile hosts: Theresa Brown and (Volunteers)
Open Saturday 12:00-4pm, Sun 12:00-2pm, Tues 5:30-7:30, Thurs 5:30-7:30.

I Street Stockpiles open Sunday 10/9

I ST Community Garden Stockpiles open this Sunday (Oct 9th) 1-3pm.

Resources available include composted horse manure, topsoil, mushroom substrate, and bagged leaves. We are limiting the quantity of manure and topsoil to 55 gal each.

Donations are greatly appreciated but not mandatory.

All donations help us to further our mission of building food security one garden at a time.

I Street open Oct 2

I St Stockpiles will be open Sunday Oct 2nd 1-3pm.

Resources include composted manure, topsoil, mushroom substrate, bagged leaves, and wood chips.

Fred will be there with some of his organic tomatoes. Feel free to ask him any questions about how to grow hundreds of lbs of tomatoes!

Donations are always welcome but not mandatory. We use all donations to help further our mission toward food security one garden at a time.

I St Stockpiles Open

I St Stockpile open Wed. Sept. 21st from 6pm-8pm & Sun. Sept. 25th from 1-3pm.

Fred will be at I St on Wed with his delicious tomatoes if you want to learn about growing abundant tomatoes!

We will be turning compost at 6pm on Wed and 1pm on Sunday if anyone wants to learn the art of hot composting. Resources on offer are composted horse manure, topsoil, woodchips, and mushroom substrate.

Donations are appreciated but not mandatory and help to further our mission of building food security one garden at a time.

I St Stockpiles Open

Sat. Sept 17th 11am-1pm & Sun Sept 18th 1pm-3pm.If you want to learn about growing tomatoes, Fred will be there on Saturday 11am-1pm with some of his delicious tomatoes to try. Resources available include composted horse manure, topsoil, mushroom substrate, and woodchips. Donations are appreciated but not mandatory. We welcome anyone who wants to learn about hot composting to join us on Sunday at 1pm to turn compost. Bring your gloves:)

I St Stockpile Closed

I ST Stockpile location will be closed until end of August. We will reopen at that time to offer more waste streams to help winterize your garden beds:). We also hope to offer another composting workshop at I ST around that time.

Thank you for an awesome gardening season. We moved more material this season than ever before! Thank you to all the stockpile hosts, volunteers, and all the anchor garden members who participated this season. Together, we are making Anchorage more food secure one garden at a time.

Stockpile Schedule 7/11-7/17

I Street Garden Stockpile is open Sunday 12-2pm (MAP)

Resources include woodchips, topsoil, 9 mo old horse manure and 9 mo old chicken/goat manure. There are free hoses, tools, pots, and weedwackers also available.

Thank you to Dana Larson, Fred McLeary and all the volunteers that came to the work party last Sunday! Your help was truly appreciated.

I St Community Garden Stockpile Schedule 7/5-7/10

New this week: we have fresh woodchips! (a mix of beautiful golden yellow Aspen, Cottonwood, and Birch) and a variety of seed potatoes. We have a table outside set up for free plants. If you have extra seedlings please label and bring them to I St and we will make them available to everyone:) Thank you!

Come help in the garden, stockpiles, composting, and/or watering and take home some topsoil, manure, mushroom substrate, free seeds or seedlings. Stockpile Schedule 6/27-7/3

I Street Community Garden is the only location with material available now. We will have abbreviated hours this week due to the upcoming holiday.

There is some topsoil left. The quantity of topsoil allowed to take will be approximately 2-3 55gal trash cans worth. Many people are still picking up materials so we will keep making them available for everyone next week too.

Fresh mushroom substrate available! Great for mulching and you will most likely get some yummy oyster mushrooms too!

Wood chips are coming later this week too!

Plant starts

We had a donation of many gorgeous and healthy tomato plants from a Spenard Farmer Vendor. Free to everyone!

We have a table outside set up for free plants. If you have extra seedlings please label and bring them to I St and we will make them available to everyone:) Thank you!

Stockpile Schedule 6/20-6/26

More topsoil is available! The quantity of topsoil allowed to take will be approximately two to three 55-gallon trash cans worth. I ST Community Garden is the only location with material available now.

This was our biggest year ever in terms of moving tons of waste resources for gardening:) We moved more material this year than in year 1 & 2 combined!! This translates into more local food being grown in Anchorage.

Our goal is to make these resources available to everyone regardless of income.
